Welcome
to our home!
Sevalaya
is a registered charitable organization (registered as a
Charitable Trust under Charitable Trust Act Regn. No: 100/88).
It runs an destitute children's Home in the village of Kasuva near Thiruninravur
about 42 kms west of Chennai, a coastal metropolis in South
India. It is also engaged in activities for the welfare of
the poor and the deprived. more
Sevalaya
runs a free unaided school
(recognized by the State Government of TamilNadu) for the
children at the destitute home and the surrounding villages;
a free medical center;
a free craft center;
a free library; a goshala
to shelter & dry and milk yielding cows; and, an old age home for destitute
senior citizens.
Sevalaya
renders its services without any distinction of caste,
creed, religion, language, gender, etc. The children in
the destitute children's home and the school are brought up in an atmosphere
free from such prejudices. They are imparted good value
systems, particularly the teachings of Gandhi, Bharathi
and Vivekananda who are the inspirers for the organization.
Sevalaya
means Temple of Service. Swami Vivekananda calls
the poor man as Dharithranarayana. Service done
to poor and destitute is actually the prayers offered
to the God. Bharathi also says that he who can't bear
the sufferings of others, is a Punniyamurthy (blessed
soul). As service activities are going on to such Dharithranarayanas,
the place is named as Sevalaya.
